Ministry Description

The duties and responsibilities of the Planning and Development Commission are as follows:

  1. Advise the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee, and the Executive Minister of the Baptist Churches of Puerto Rico in the formulation of long-range plans;

  2. Study the geographic conditions, demographic situation, population dispersion and economic possibilities of specific areas to determine the possibility of opening new works there and make pertinent recommendations, including, among others, guidance related to the size, radius of action and conditions that promote the development of an effective church;

  3. Suggest means to finance new works;

  4. Advise churches in the study of their physical development problems and how this may affect their program areas;

  5. Advise churches and organizations of the Baptist Churches of Puerto Rico that request it in their plans, construction projects, repairs, and conservation and improvement of property;

  6. Encourage the formation of planning and development committees in local churches and provide them with appropriate advice;

  7. Maintain relations with similar bodies of other denominations and the Council of Churches of Puerto Rico;

  8. Create an archive of plans and legal documents related to the buildings and properties of the churches and Baptist Churches of Puerto Rico, which will remain under the custody of the Executive Minister.
